When we think of Nordic houses, a combination of wooden materials and bucolic, sustainable cottages in harmony with nature comes to mind.
This view is not out of step with reality. In Nordic countries such as Norway, there are two types of construction: year-round residential housing and permanent vacation homes in the mountains, both of which require different building materials. Normally stone or concrete houses are not built, wood is preferred as the star material because it is more economical, adapts better to the climate and saves a lot on heating due to its high energy efficiency.
The Nordic house covers its wooden walls with layers of insulation of up to 20 cm, but to create an energy-efficient house and turn it into a passive house, at least 40 cm of insulation will be needed. Another characteristic of this type of construction is the materials used in the roof.
Mainly natural materials such as ceramic tiles are used, but most are made of Norwegian black metal which heats better and makes the snow come down faster.
